Frederick inspects drill core at a northern winter drill site, shivering in the cold.

Pete's windshield note lifts in the wind before it can be read.

The Ontario border sign appears as the white Quebec van with blue Fleur-de-lis markings and a "BC or Bust" sign enters Ontario.

Pierre and Jacques sing happily in French inside the Quebec van.

The Quebec van pulls up to a gas pump and Pierre pays for fuel with his debit card.

Pierre enters the van, drops his wallet without noticing and drives away.

Oil drops on the gas-station pavement mark the path where the Quebec van drove away.

Jacques and Pierre keep singing in the Quebec van, oblivious to the wallet and oil trouble.

Sam approaches his truck just as Pete is driving away.

The Quebec van is pulled over on Highway 17 with smoke coming from the motor.

Sam drives up to the broken-down Quebec van and finds Jacques and Pierre looking at the motor.

The convoy reaches the river clearing and starts unloading the camp gear while Sam points the crew to Pete.

A table is set with sandwiches and other food and eight settings.

As they all leave the tent, Billy pauses to speak to Jessica.

Night settles over the camp as Jacques prepares hard-boiled eggs and Pete later puts them back in the carton.

Susie enters the kitchen and goes about making breakfast.

A wall clock says 6:10. Susie is busy in the kitchen.

Jessica hands out compasses and begins teaching Billy, Jacques, and Pierre the basics of staking claim lines.

Pete walks to a map on the wall and points. This is the group of claims we have to do.

Sam's truck pulls up and Sam, Gabe and Pierre get out.

Both trucks arrive in camp. Rain has stopped. Susie is making supper.

Gabe enters the tent. Pete marks out which lines have been done on a claim map with a dark marker.

Susie leans out and bangs loudly on her pot.

The crew gathers for supper in the kitchen tent and Billy's crossword clue turns into table banter.

Sam walks through the bush with a packsack, blazing trees as the voiceover explains claim staking.

A quiet, serene bush scene is interrupted by a strange, loud noise from somewhere in the woods.

Sam stops what he is doing, perks his ears, slices off bark from opposite sides of a tree then walks away.

The strange noise starts again, revealing a differently dressed man without a packsack moving through the bush.

Sam blazes trees near a cliff, finds rusty rock on a steep slope, and slips on moss while using his axe.

Pete finishes his VLF notebook readings and hears Sam calling over the walkie-talkie from the cliff area.

Sam calls Pete on the walkie-talkie from near the steep cliff while Pete angrily resists answering.

Sam has his arm wrapped around a tree while gingerly and carefully hanging on to the walkie talkie with one hand.

Sam hears the chainsaw. Pete stops his chainsaw, reconnects the alternator belt to the alternator and starts his truck.

Pete watches Jacques cut a post then hands him a metal tag.

Billy is using the mirror on his compass. Jessica blazes a tree behind him and catches up.

Pete and Jacques split up in the bush so their claim lines can cross later.

Billy lights up his cigarette. Billy takes one last drag, then struggles to keep up with Jessica.

Gabe tells Pierre about the accident that killed Katherine and Jackson, while the script shows Pete calling and Katherine driving.

Sam's truck turns off at a fork in the road. Pete continues driving, and pulls over beside a wide creek where Billy and Jessica grab their packs and the rubber raft.

Pierre has a fishing rod and is walking quickly to the canoe.

Sam, Gabe, Billy and Jessica are at the fire. Pete is in the kitchen tent highlighting the claims that are done, in black on the map that is on the wall.

Susie is banging on the supper pot. Everyone is in the kitchen.

Pierre studies the dishwashing chore list, then Susie offers him a favour in exchange for more canoe-paddling lessons.

Susie, humming, enters her tent. She looks into a mirror, preens herself and unbuttons the top two buttons on her blouse.

The crew eats breakfast in the kitchen tent while Gabe is absent and listening to the weather radio.

Gabe listens to the CBC weather forecast, then reports the heat and coming rain to Pete, Billy, and Sam in the kitchen tent.

Supper is over. Susie and Pierre collide as they exit the tent.

Gabe interrupts Pete splitting firewood and asks him to come see something important in the woods.

Gabe pulls Pete away from chopping wood to show him the dead chicot.

Pete connects Gabe's chicot lesson to images of Katherine and Jackson, his grief, and the past he cannot undo.

Sam's truck is already in the yard. Billy's truck pulls up so Susie bangs her cooking pot and yells.

At supper, Billy complains about his steak before Pete lays out the daily claim-line target.

Susie finds the dented spoons Pierre played the night before while washing breakfast dishes.

The sky is grey. Looks like rain. Everyone has their rain gear except Gabe.

Billy blows up the rubber raft with his mouth and brings it to Jessica, next to a small bay along the shoreline.

Jacques looks at his watch. It says 4:45. He pulls out his walkie talkie.

Sam drops off Gabe and Pierre, then drives away.

Pete and Jacques reach a lake with two campers, and Pete pours out a beer after one camper insults Jacques.

Jessica and Billy finish lunch, reveal a shared Star Trek connection, and head back into the bush with their axes.

The black stump Pierre dismissed as harmless moves behind him in the bush.

Pete and Jacques have just arrived at the truck.

Billy and Jessica are sitting on the edge of a creek that is beside the road.

Gabe and Pete are standing beside a huge Chicot, a dead tree with skeleton like branches and no leaves.

Pierre and Susie pull up the canoe where Jessica is standing.

Pierre pulls the canoe up on shore and starts to clean the fish he caught.

On her way to the tent, Susie sees lights on in kitchen tent.

In the girls' tent, Jessica teases Susie about Pierre and Susie jokes about using the right bait.

Susie bangs the pot for breakfast. The crew wanders in and sits down.

Jessica pulls up and enters the tent. Sam and Pete look like drowned rats and are chatting and laughing.

The crew loads into the trucks, and Jessica notices Billy's round coffee cup placed in her truck-box hole.

Sam studies the master claim map in the kitchen tent, showing only a few claims left unhighlighted after the miserable day.

Pierre is brought into the night kitchen tent injured, and Gabe's nephews arrive early to help finish the claims.

Pete directs Gabe's nephews by walkie-talkie as the final staking push begins from the bush road.

Gabe and Sam drive back to camp with the nephews' truck, where Jessica, injured Pierre, and Susie are already back.

The crew gathers in the kitchen tent as Pete announces all 400 claims are staked and prepares for the early recorder-office run.

The red taillights show as Pete's truck drives away.

Jessica asks Sam what will happen to Vincent's crew if Pete registers the claims first.

Pete pulls up to Jessica and Billy, Jessica looks at her watch.

Pete registers claims at the mining recorder's office while Frederick, Vincent, and the clerks establish the legal battleground.

Vincent walks around to the passenger side and scratches Pete's truck with his keys.

Clerk 3 returns. Pete pulls out a credit card from his wallet.

Jacques and Pierre wait at the mining recorder's office while Jessica calls Pete with worker names and license numbers.

Jessica drops Susie at the Sudbury pharmacy and tells her she will be back in 30 to 40 minutes.

At the pharmacy counter, Susie notices Canada flag lapel pins while buying supplies.

Jessica enters the office and hands a note to clerk 1 at the counter.

Jessica pulls up to pick up Susie. Jessica smiles and punches down the gas pedal.

Vincent receives a phone call. When Vincent hears who it is, he quickly sits up and listens attentively.

Pete pulls into the parking lot. He looks at his watch, which shows 8:20 AM.

As Pete waits outside the building entrance, Vincent pulls up in his truck and parks beside Pete's truck.

Pete, Vincent and his two helpers get into the elevator.

Susie rushes inside and sees that elevator is already at the fourth floor.

The elevator door opens. Pete is about to exit when Vincent muscles his body in front of Pete.

As Susie reaches the fourth floor, she sees Vincent standing beside the Mining Recorder's door, waiting for it to open.

Vincent's two helpers exit the elevator on the fourth floor and join him inside the recorder's office.

Just as Susie is about to enter Pete's truck, Vincent and his helpers come outside.

The Quebec men are working on the motor in their van while French music is loudly playing.

Sam and Pierre head downstairs and start organizing his field gear.

Pierre nods. He sees a fishing rod in the corner and gestures to Sam to enquire if it is ok to take along.

Pete arrives at Sam's yard with Gabe and a canoe while Gabe's nephews wait to haul supplies to camp.

Vincent calls Julie while posing as Gerry Gainforth, then phones Paul to warn that Sam and Pete may be onto something big.

Pete and Susie sit in his truck while James calls about the gold sample, bonuses, and sending Gabe to discuss the discovery.

The crew returns to Sam's yard, Jacques and Pierre arrange garage time and cash, and Pete points Gabe toward James about the gold samples.

Pete returns to Sam's yard with bonus envelopes as Billy asks Jessica out and Jacques and Pierre reveal the repainted Quebec van.

Pete jumps in his truck, waves at his folks and drives away.

Sam sees a dog complete with floppy ears made out of his old rubber boots.

Jacques opens Pete's gift in the Quebec van and finds a Maple Leafs cooler full of Sudbury craft beer.

The optional epilogue begins with an on-screen "One Year Later" card.

The optional epilogue montage shows Billy and Jessica's wedding, Pete and Jacques sharing beer, Susie pregnant with Pierre, and the honeymoon vehicle.
